Barcode Generator – Create Code 128, EAN, UPC & More | ZechKit

A linear one-dimensional (1D) barcode represents alphanumeric data using parallel dark bars and light spaces of varying widths. When a laser or optical barcode scanner sweeps across the symbol, photo-sensors measure the reflected light wavelengths to reconstruct the encoded binary codewords:

• Start & Stop Patterns: Dedicated boundary patterns at the beginning and end of the barcode that define the symbol's orientation and allow omnidirectional scanning.
• Data Characters: Groups of discrete bar-and-space modules encoding numeric digits or alphanumeric characters according to the symbology's specification.
• Check Digit (Checksum): A mathematical verification digit calculated from the preceding data characters to prevent scanning errors, misreads, or incomplete manual entry.
• Quiet Zone: A mandatory buffer of clear blank space (at least 10 times the width of the narrowest bar or a minimum of 10px/6mm) on both ends of the barcode to isolate the symbol from surrounding graphic elements.

• Code 128: High-density alphanumeric symbology supporting all 128 ASCII characters. The modern worldwide standard for warehouse management, logistics tracking, shipping labels, and internal business assets.
• Code 39: Widely adopted industrial symbology supporting uppercase letters ($A-Z$), numbers ($0-9$), and basic symbols ($- . \$ / + \% \text{ [space]}$). Commonly used in automotive, defense, and healthcare equipment tagging.
• EAN-13 & EAN-8: The global standard product identifier for consumer goods sold at retail point-of-sale (POS) terminals outside North America. Encodes a 12-digit GTIN plus a calculated Modulo-10 check digit.
• UPC-A & UPC-E: The standard retail product identifier in the United States and Canada. UPC-A encodes 11 data digits plus 1 check digit (12 digits total), while UPC-E compresses zero sequences for small consumer packages.
• ITF-14 (Interleaved 2 of 5): High-contrast 14-digit packaging barcode with thick bearer bars, engineered specifically for corrugated shipping cartons and master logistics cases.

For retail barcodes (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, ITF-14), check digits prevent accidental scanning misreads. ZechKit automatically calculates the Modulo-10 check digit using standard GS1 weighting:

Where weights $w_i$ alternate between $3$ and $1$ from right to left across the payload.

Generating a barcode graphic with ZechKit renders a technically valid image, but does not automatically register an official Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) with GS1. For commercial products distributed in major supermarkets and retail chains, businesses must obtain authorized company prefixes and GTINs from official GS1 member organizations.
