To reduce file redundancy when words, category names, or customer names repeat thousands of times across a spreadsheet, OpenXML utilizes a Shared Strings Table. When an Excel cell contains textual data:

Excel worksheets structure cell coordinates using alphanumeric grid references combining column letters and row indices (e.g., C15 corresponds to column index 3, row index 15). The conversion between alphanumeric coordinates and 0-indexed column numbers is computed using base-26 bijective numeration:
